Providing High-quality CP Grade 3 Titanium Plates to Serve Customers Worldwide

CP Grade 3 Titanium plate is a commercially pure titanium grade known for its excellent balance of strength and ductility. It offers higher mechanical properties compared to Grades 1 and 2, making it ideal for applications requiring moderate strength and good formability. This grade features outstanding corrosion resistance, especially in marine and chemical environments, along with low density and high toughness.

Key Characteristics:
  • Composition: CP Grade 3 is primarily titanium (typically ~99.1%), with small amounts of oxygen, iron, carbon, nitrogen, and hydrogen. The oxygen content is the main factor influencing its strength.
  • Mechanical Properties: It offers higher tensile and yield strength than Grades 1 and 2, making it suitable for applications requiring more robust performance while still maintaining good ductility.
  • Corrosion Resistance: Like all CP titanium grades, Grade 3 provides outstanding resistance to corrosion, especially in oxidizing environments such as those containing chlorides or seawater.
  • Fabrication: It can be welded, formed, and machined using conventional methods, which enhances its versatility in manufacturing.
  • Biocompatibility: The material is biocompatible, allowing its use in medical implants and other healthcare applications.
Common Applications:
  • Aerospace: For components that need a mix of strength, light weight, and corrosion resistance.
  • Chemical Processing: Equipment exposed to corrosive environments.
  • Marine Engineering: Parts subject to seawater corrosion.
  • Medical Devices: Implants and surgical tools due to its biocompatibility.

CP Grade 3 vs. Other Titanium Grades

CP Grade 3 Titanium plate serves as a powerful middle-ground option in the titanium family. It delivers significantly higher strength than the softer, more formable Grades 1 and 2, making it suitable for components that face greater mechanical stress. Crucially, it achieves this strength boost while retaining excellent corrosion resistance and good weldability, a key advantage over the even stronger but less ductile CP Grade 4.

When compared to the popular alloy Grade 5 (Ti-6Al-4V), CP Grade 3 is less strong and not heat-treatable. However, it is far easier to form and fabricate, and it provides superior corrosion resistance in many reducing chemical environments. This makes CP Grade 3 the ideal choice when your project requires a step up in strength from the basic CP grades but cannot sacrifice the ease of manufacturing and outstanding durability needed for demanding aerospace, marine, and chemical processing applications.

What is the main difference between CP Grade 3 and the more common Grade 2 titanium? How do I choose?

The primary difference is strength. CP Grade 3 offers significantly higher tensile and yield strength than Grade 2, making it suitable for components that must withstand greater mechanical stress. It still maintains excellent corrosion resistance and good weldability.

How to choose:

  • Choose Grade 2 if your project demands excellent formability and cost-effectiveness with moderate strength.
  • Choose CP Grade 3 if your parts need to endure medium to high mechanical loads without sacrificing corrosion resistance or weldability.
Do you offer cutting services for CP Grade 3 titanium plates? Can I get custom sizes?

Yes, we provide professional custom cutting services. To minimize your material waste and machining time, we can cut the titanium plates to your exact specifications based on your drawings or dimensions. Please provide your detailed requirements when requesting a quote, and our team will offer the best solution.

Are your CP Grade 3 titanium plates certified to international standards? Can you provide a Material Test Report (MTR)?

Absolutely. All our CP Grade 3 titanium plates comply with international standards such as ASTM B265 / ASME SB265. With every shipment, we can provide a certified Material Test Report (MTR) detailing the chemical composition and mechanical properties, ensuring full traceability and quality assurance.

How is the weldability of CP Grade 3 titanium? Does it require special procedures?

CP Grade 3 titanium has excellent weldability. We recommend using TIG (Gas Tungsten Arc Welding) or MIG (Gas Metal Arc Welding). The most critical step is to provide proper shielding with an inert gas (typically argon) to protect the weld pool from atmospheric contamination. With correct protection, the weld’s performance will be as strong as the base material.
