Providing High-quality CP Grade 4 Titanium Plates to Serve Customers Worldwide
CP Grade 4 Titanium Plate stands as the strongest of the commercially pure (CP) titanium grades, offering an exceptional combination of high strength and outstanding corrosion resistance. This grade is distinguished by its higher allowable oxygen content, which directly contributes to its superior mechanical properties compared to other CP titanium grades, making it a highly sought-after material for demanding industrial applications.
In terms of specifications, CP Grade 4 conforms to standards like ASTM B265 and AMS 4901. Its chemical composition is tightly controlled, featuring a maximum oxygen content of 0.40%, which is the key to its enhanced strength. This results in a minimum tensile strength of 550 MPa (80,000 psi) and a minimum yield strength of 480 MPa (70,000 psi), while still maintaining a respectable elongation of 15-25%. With a density of approximately 4.51 g/cm³, it provides a high strength-to-weight ratio, a characteristic benefit of all titanium alloys.
Applications of CP Grade 4 Titanium Plate
The robust properties of CP Grade 4 titanium plate make it an ideal choice for a wide range of critical applications. It is extensively used in the aerospace industry for components such as jet engine parts and airframe fasteners where both strength and reliability are paramount. Its excellent resistance to corrosive environments, including seawater and industrial chemicals, makes it a staple in marine engineering, chemical processing equipment, and desalination plants. Furthermore, its biocompatibility allows for its use in certain medical implants, and it is also found in demanding sectors like pulp and paper production and corrosive waste disposal systems.
For projects that require a material that bridges the gap between the lower-strength CP grades and the more complex titanium alloys, CP Grade 4 titanium plate is often the perfect solution. It delivers superior performance in harsh environments without the need for alloying, ensuring long-term durability and structural integrity. This makes it a versatile and valuable material for any engineer or procurement manager looking to specify high-performance titanium for their products.
Compared with other pure titanium grades
The core difference between CP Grade 4 and the other commercially pure (CP) titanium grades (Grades 1, 2, and 3) is a trade-off between strength and formability, which is controlled by their oxygen content.
- Grade 1: The softest and most ductile (easiest to form). It has the lowest strength.
- Grade 2: The most common “workhorse” grade. It offers the best all-around balance of strength and formability.
- Grade 3: Stronger than Grade 2, but less formable. It’s used less frequently.
- Grade 4: The strongest of all the CP grades. However, it is also the least formable and the most difficult to cold-work.
In short, as you move from Grade 1 to Grade 4, strength increases, but formability decreases.
So, the choice depends on your project’s priority: if you need maximum strength for a less complex shape, choose Grade 4. If you need to form the material into complex shapes, Grade 1 or 2 would be a better choice.

CP Grade 4 is the strongest of all the commercially pure (CP) titanium grades. Its high strength comes from a higher oxygen content, making it an excellent choice when you need more durability than Grade 2 or 3 titanium, but don’t want to move to a more complex alloy. It combines superior strength with outstanding corrosion resistance.
While both are corrosion resistant, Grade 4 titanium offers a significantly higher strength-to-weight ratio—it’s about 40% lighter than stainless steel but can be just as strong. It also provides far superior resistance to chlorides (like saltwater) and many industrial chemicals, making it ideal for marine and chemical environments where stainless steel might fail.
It can be welded using standard titanium welding procedures (like TIG or MIG) with proper inert gas shielding. For machining, it requires sharp tools, slower speeds, and ample coolant, much like other titanium grades. It’s more challenging than stainless steel but very manageable with the right equipment and techniques.
Our Grade 4 Titanium plates fully comply with major international standards, including ASTM B265 (for plate, sheet, and strip) and AMS 4901. We can provide material test certificates (MTCs) to verify the chemical composition and mechanical properties upon request.
We typically stock Grade 4 Titanium plates in a range of standard thicknesses and widths. Common finishes include hot-rolled, pickled, or polished. For specific dimensions or custom fabrication, please contact our sales team with your requirements, and we will be happy to assist you.
