DAXUN produces commercially pure titanium Grade 2 (UNS R50400) in thicknesses ranging from 0.5mm to 120mm. Grade 2 Titanium Plate (UNS R50400) is the “workhorse” of the commercially pure series. It combines high strength, and ductility, and is corrosion resistant for many industrial applications.
The Grade 2 Plate is a commercially pure titanium plate. It offers an excellent balance between strength and ductility. It has good impact strength and good weldability. It is corrosion resistant in highly oxidizing environments, alkaline media, brine solutions, weakly reducing environments, nitric acid, and wet chlorine. It also has excellent resistance to seawater and salt solutions.
Titanium’s low density, high strength-to-weight ratio, and corrosion resistance make it an ideal material for a wide range of applications, and it effectively resists stress corrosion cracking, pitting, and crevice corrosion in chloride solutions below 70°C. With a melting point of 1660°C, the plate is the alloy of choice for most industrial applications requiring good ductility and corrosion resistance.

Titanium Grade like #2 comes in cold rolled thicknesses from 0.3 mm to 6.0 mm. Hot-rolled thicknesses range from 4.76 mm to 155 mm. Plates can be heat treated or creep flattened. They are available in cut blank form, with further processing as per customer needs.

Description
- Grade 2 Titanium Plate, commonly known as Ti-CP (Commercially Pure Titanium Grade #2), is a non-alloyed metal plate known for its high corrosion resistance, formability, and mild strength. It is one of the commercially pure titanium grades, which are classed according to their composition and mechanical characteristics.
Machinability
- The Grade 2 is easily machinable using conventional processes. Machinability is similar to that of austenitic stainless steel. Just like stainless steel, it has limited thermal conductivity and poor heat dissipation, hence a substantial amount of coolant is needed. Sharp tools are essential. Cuts should be deep and continuous, with slow cutting speeds.
- Grade 2 titanium plates can be easily welded using GMAW and GTAW processes. Preheat and post-weld heat treatment are not required. The area around the weld must be clean and free of oil and shop dirt, including pencil marks. Abrasive cleaning, solvent cleaning, or pickling with nitric and hydrofluoric acid solutions are options.
- Use AWS ERTi-2 compatible filler metal. The gas barrier should be low in hydrogen, oxygen, and nitrogen, all of which readily dissolve in titanium and cause embrittlement.
- Grade 2 titanium alloys have a lower density, making them ideal for applications where weight is a concern. This grade of the alloys are industrial components that are commonly used in oil and gas components, reaction and pressure vessels, piping systems, heat exchangers, linings, flue gas desulfurization systems and a variety of other industrial applications. Continuous service temperatures can reach 800°F, while intermittent service temperatures can reach 1000°F.
- Industrial and aerospace quality titanium plates are available in a wide range of specifications and tolerances for applications ranging from ballistic armor to structural components to engineered hollow fan blade systems where exceptional flatness and specification control are critical.
- The corrosion resistance of C.P. titanium grade is due to the formation of a strongly adherent, stable, protective oxide film in the presence of oxygen. Titanium grade 2 is highly corrosion-resistant to seawater and marine atmospheric corrosion. The plate is resistant to attack from wet chlorides and metal chlorides, chlorite and hypochlorite solutions, nitric and chromic acids, organic acids, and many gaseous industrial uses.
- Titanium Grade 2 sheet has excellent ductility and may be cold-produced. To eliminate cold forming issues, use a minimum bend radius of 2T for material less than 0.070 inches thick and 2.5T for material larger than 0.070 inches.
- The material is also simple to machine, post heat treatments and has good weldability. Hot work should be done between 400°F and 600°F.
- Welding Grade 2 titanium can be done using a variety of techniques, including MIG and TIG. Inert gas shielding can prevent oxygen pickup and embrittlement in the weld region.
