Its high strength comes from a higher oxygen content, making it an excellent choice when you need more durability than Grade 2 or 3 titanium, but don’t want to move to a more complex alloy. It combines superior strength with outstanding corrosion resistance.

How does Grade 4 Titanium compare to stainless steel?

While both are corrosion resistant, Grade 4 titanium offers a significantly higher strength-to-weight ratio—it’s about 40% lighter than stainless steel but can be just as strong. It also provides far superior resistance to chlorides (like saltwater) and many industrial chemicals, making it ideal for marine and chemical environments where stainless steel might fail.

Is Grade 4 Titanium difficult to weld or machine?

It can be welded using standard titanium welding procedures (like TIG or MIG) with proper inert gas shielding. For machining, it requires sharp tools, slower speeds, and ample coolant, much like other titanium grades. It’s more challenging than stainless steel but very manageable with the right equipment and techniques.
