Composition and Properties
Austenitic stainless steels typically contain 16-18% chromium, 10-14% nickel and 2-3% molybdenum. The addition of molybdenum significantly improves the corrosion resistance of the alloy, especially in chloride-rich environments. This composition not only provides excellent corrosion resistance, but also outstanding mechanical properties such as high tensile strength, good ductility and excellent weldability. These properties make austenitic stainless steels a versatile material suitable for a variety of demanding applications.
Corrosion Resistance and Heat Resistance
Austenitic stainless steel is known for its excellent corrosion resistance, especially in acidic and chloride environments. This makes it ideal for applications that require high strength and maximum corrosion resistance. In addition, it is resistant to stress corrosion cracking, further increasing its durability in harsh conditions. Austenitic stainless steel also has good heat resistance and can withstand temperatures up to approximately 870°C. This combination of properties ensures that it performs reliably in both high temperature and corrosive environments.
