Grade 7 titanium bar (Ti Grade 7 / UNS R52400) is a palladium-enhanced, commercially pure (CP) titanium alloy specifically engineered for supreme corrosion resistance in aggressive environments. It consists of titanium (≥99%) with a critical addition of 0.12–0.25% palladium (Pd), which fundamentally alters its electrochemical behavior. This palladium modification dramatically improves resistance to reducing acids (e.g., sulfuric, hydrochloric, phosphoric), chloride solutions (including seawater and brines), and crevice/pitting corrosion—scenarios where standard CP grades like Grade 2 would rapidly degrade. HEAT TREATMENT

When enhanced corrosion resistance and mechanical properties are required, annealing can be performed at 1,200-1,400°F (649-760°C).
DAXUN Grade 7 alloy can be heat treated in a variety of ways:

  1. Anneal: 1,200-1,400°F (649-760°C), 1 to 2 hours, air cool
  2. Stress Relief Anneal: 900-1,100°F (482-593°C), 1 to 4 hours, air cool

HARDNESS

Typical hardness in the annealed condition is Rockwell B 70-80, providing excellent machinability while maintaining superior corrosion resistance.


Forgeability / Formability

Grade 7 titanium alloy bar is forged at 1,650-1,750°F (899-954°C) with a final forging temperature of 1,450°F (788°C). A minimum of 30% reduction is recommended for optimum properties.

Grade 7 alloy bar exhibits good formability in the annealed condition. For severe forming operations such as bending or stretching, these can be performed at temperatures up to 1,200°F (649°C) without affecting mechanical properties. Hot sizing or forming can be accomplished by creep forming in the range of 1,000-1,200°F (538-649°C).


加工性

Grade 7 titanium alloy bar can be machined using austenitic stainless steel machining methods with slow machining speeds, high feeds, rigid tools, and the use of large amounts of non-chlorinated cutting fluids. The palladium content does not significantly affect machinability compared to other CP titanium grades.


溶接性

Grade 7 titanium rod is readily weldable in the annealed condition. Precautions must be taken to prevent contamination with oxygen, nitrogen, and hydrogen. Fusion welding may be performed in an inert gas filled chamber or with inert gas to weld the molten metal and adjacent heated zones, with a tail shield. The palladium addition enhances weld integrity in corrosive environments.


Special Considerations

Grade 7 titanium alloy rod may be contaminated with hydrogen from improper pickling, and with oxygen, nitrogen, and carbon during forging, heat treating, brazing, etc. This contamination may result in a loss of ductility, which may adversely affect notch sensitivity and forming characteristics. The palladium content provides additional protection against corrosion in contaminated conditions.
